Today is the 6th annual World Prematurity Day. About 15 million babies around the world are born premature, and 1 in 10 are born prematurely in the United States every year. Premature birth is the number one killer of babies in the United States and those who survive face lifelong health problems such as vision loss, cerebral palsy and breathing problems.
March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health and have aided in research, education and vaccines for mothers and baby for over 75 years. They have made it their mission to help more moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies. In just two years, the nation’s preterm birth rate has decreased from 11.4 percent to 9.63 percent.
Mud Pie has once again paired with March of Dimes to help spread awareness and aid in funding research to prevent premature births worldwide. There are three ways you can help Mud Pie and the March of Dimes spread love and help bundles of joy around the world. Little by little, small things add up!
You can buy your sweet cheeks a pair of socks (or many pairs… one can never have too many), or give them as a gift to friends with newborns to keep their tinny toes warm and oh so cute! 10 cents from every purchase will be donated to March of Dimes.
New in 2016, Mud Pie has introduced an exclusive March of Dimes Piggy Bank. The classic ceramic bank, featuring a raised “love” footprint, will support the March of Dimes with a $5 donation for each piggy bank purchased.
It’s the most perfect time to shop for a cause! Come shop away at our Annual Charity Warehouse Sale, where ALL net proceeds (including the admission fee) will be donated to March of Dimes.
What else is going on in support for the cause? Well, about 50 different countries are participating in World Prematurity day by wearing purple, sharing stories, hosting events and lighting up famous buildings purple (like the Empire State Building in New York). Today, you can change your profile picture to increase awareness
You can also share this message from the March of Dimes, or post pictures to social media using the hashtag #givethemtomorrow and #worldprematurityday to show mothers and children around the world how you are spreading the word.
Every day is a gift and every healthy bundle of joy is too.
